About

While surfing the net looking for some information I needed to write an article to a local magazine, I came across this blog which had picture of a cute little dog. After reading the article associated with the picture, I realized its a "Yorkshire Terrier".

Later in the day, I had a long discussion with a friend of mine, who is a dog expert and later in the night I started looking for more information on the net about this cute little breed. I went trough lot of different web pages including some hub pages and I thought its time to create my own little hub. As a result, you are now reading the very first hub created by me.

A bit from the history

Yorkshire Terriers were originated in Yorkshire area (isn't is obvious?) in Northern England. It is said that in mid 1800's, workers who migrated from Scotland to Yorkshire area looking for work introduced different varieties of small terriers to the region which laid the foundation for this new breed.

Almost anything in the shape of a terrier having a long coat with blue on the body and fawn or silver colored head and legs, with tail docked and ears trimmed was considered as a Yorkshire Terrier until in late 1960's a Terrier showdog named Huddersfield Ben was seen at dog shows throughout England, which defined the breed type for this cute little dog.

A really nice video clip I found

Below I have embedded really nice video clip of a cute yorkie puppy being reunited with the mother. Credit goes to the original uploader.

Some important facts

  • Must have baths and the coat must be trimmed short  for hygiene.
  • Get you Yorkie's ears checked regularly for excessive wax and mites.
  • Make sure you keep the hair around the dog's anus clean
  • Give them nutritious food. A healthy one can have a life span of 15 years.
  • They have very little tolerance for other animals
  • May have tartar buildup on the teeth, brush regularly
  • Mucus might rot your pet's hair. Wash mucus off and dry carefully.
